It has been pointed out to me that the level of knowledge about the Pink Alliance is very low, so here is some information.
The big push for a bill against discrimination will start soon and probably go on for at least 18 months, and the Pink Alliance will be part of this, so before we ask your help (which we shall) I thought I should explain a bit about us.
For a good view of our activity, see the website: www.tcjm.org and the Facebook pages, Pink Alliance, Pink Season, IDAHOT and Out in the Open.
Pink Alliance is the working name (brand name) of the Tongzhi Community Joint Meeting (TCJM), which is a HK-registered NGO. It is an alliance of LGBT groups in HK. These include Les Peches, Fruits in Suits, Mr. Gay HK, Transgender Resource Center, Elements, Queer Straight Alliance, Tongzhi Literary Group, the Chi Heng Foundation and Satsanga. It has appointed liaison with Interbank LGBT Forum, AIDS Concern, HK AIDS Foundation, Community Business, Amnesty International’s LGBT Section and Spiritual Seekers.
It has a Central Committee of over 20 people representing all member groups and also working groups of volunteers (about 70), covering events and issues, such as video making, fund raising, politics, translation, PR, communications, letter writing, education, and campaigning against fundamentalist arguments and ‘reparative therapy’.
Everyone in the Pink Alliance is a volunteer, and facilities are provided by our supporters, so it is cheap to run; it costs about HK$8,000 per year for administration, raised by donations. Campaigns and events are raised separately.
The Pink Alliance does the following:
a. Runs the Pink Season, Out in the Open and IDAHOT commemoration.
b. Campaigns in public with press releases, letters, TV and radio appearances, works with HK politicians and makes videos.
c. Lobbies Government departments.
d. Devises educational material for teacher training and the secondary school syllabus.
e. Takes up individual cases.
f. Raises funds for LGBT causes and individuals.
g. Acts as a channel for, and store of, LGBT-related information.
h. Assists NGO Community Business in its Business Diversity campaign.
